KD without milk or butter

so a couple of days ago i had a box of kd for lunch. this box of kd was made with neither butter, nor milk. why you ask? it is a little story i like to call me and kingston P.U.C.:
for those of you just joining us now i have just returned from a 7 week absence from kingston. while i was away jen was keeping an eye on my apartment and watering my plants. a couple of weeks prior to my departure i had arranged to have the house joint utility account cancelled for while i was away. this is the account that deals with gas and water for the whole house which is divided up among the three apartments. since no one was going to be living here and the girls in apartment one had agreed to take over the account we had agreed to shut it off for the month of july. i had warned jen that there might not be power in the hall when she got here but not to be concerned.
so after a couple of weeks of dutiful monitoring and plant watering jen noticed a bit of an odour in my apartment that wasn't going away. she bravely investigated to find a liquefied vegetable in my refridgerator. reaching in to remove it she noted a complete absence of temperature difference between the room and the fridge. putting two and two together she opened the freezer and only she can describe the horror she discovered. lets just say that before i left i had visited both price club and m&m meat shops.
so what could possibly have happened? well...instead of turning of the account i had asked them to the utility company turned off my apartment account. so all of the food in my fridge and freezer thawed, rotted and grown things unspeakable in the heat of july. everything had to be thrown out, everything.
jen had cleaned out my fridge and her dad (BLESS HIM) had dealt with the freezer before i got home. gross you bet and i can't even imagine what it must have been like then because i've spent the last two days picking the remaining fly and magot (oh yes it was that gross) carcasses out of the crevices in the freezer. can you say disinfectant?
so now the power is back on in my whole apartment, the fridge is on and i am hesitantly restocking my fridge with things that won't absorb odour. and i wait to hear from the utility company regarding how much money they are going to give me for my lost food. can't wait, i'm sure it will be ample and generous considering they have yet to even say sorry.
