Bonjour Tout le Monde!
so andrea and i went on our mission for leisure and it was completely successful! this is going to be a long story and i feel like i'm not even going to be able to remember everything that we did. i'll try my best and those of you who make it all the way through are true champs. i managed to get friday afternoon off so that we could catch a train that arrived in paris at a reasonable time and to maximize the relaxation. the train was covered in disney characters, a little disappointing, and the seats in front of us where filled with spoiled, annoying, and disruptive children whose behaviour consistently didn't even seem to phase their father. about 2 hours in he finally assumed an aisle seat. relieved i thought this might decrease the disruption only to discover where his children learned thier behaviour. oh genetics.
once in paris we discovered that the very warm extended to the continent and didn't diminish after dark like it does in london. we found our hostel after a short trip on the metro and a walk through a fairly sketch neighbourhood. our room was a four person room on the fourth floor which when we arrived already had one girl established there. andrea and i chose the other set of bunk bed, put our folded sheets up on top of the bed and changed out of our sweaty travel clothes. these were hung over the railings of the bed (this will be important later). we headed off for the river to explore a little and have some supper.
when we arrive on the shores we discoved that the right bank is converted in paris plage in the summer buy the importation of sand, palm trees, deck chairs, water features, childrens games and a stage for outdoor concerts. we ate supper on one of the islands in the river that's name i now forget but will be filled in at a later date. supper was delicious and consisted of a starter of gelato from down the street, and then a little while later a proper supper of mozarella and tomatoe salad, cheese crepes and warm chocolate tart with english cream for dessert!
as an aside, reading through this you may wonder if our trip revolved around food. the answer is absolutely. it was all about the carbs!
the rest of that evening was spent wandering around the river banks. when we returned to our hostel we were once again swealteringly hot and dripping wet. i was looking forward to a little sleep. and what should i find upon entering our room? a girl sleeping in my bed using my sheet!!!! what the f? andrea was kind enough to go down to the front desk and get another sheet for me as i was too flaberghasted to do anything. so i ended up sleeping across the room, far from the windows (which by the way opened, no kidding, 2 inches great when it is 31 outside and about 42 inside). i also use the term 'sleeping' rather loosely. i thrashed around and dozed off but spent most of the night silently cursing the girl in my bed and wondering if it were possible to sweat so much that you drown the person in the lower bunk...
