there is no keeping up or catching up

i'm not entirely sure anyone is still reading this but since i've been completely derelict in my updating i wouldn't be surprised if i was writing this for the benefit of one.

holy crap it is october! at least it still feels like summer so i can be in denial a little longer.

once again things are ramping up at the university. i've agreed to continue as a small group facilitator friday afternoons and have added a lecture on mechanical ventilators and tracheotomies to occur in november. i'm both exciting and terrified. every now and again i get the sense that my career is 10 years ahead of my experience but i'm sprinting along trying to keep up. oh ya, i'm also now the cardioresp pt team leader (see what i mean?). good lord. the good news being that we now have only one vacancy for a pt and one for a pta which is the best things have been in about a year.

with all that going on i'm looking forward to a little vacation time in november (after the lecture). robin and i are going to new york to do the 'tourist thing' and maybe a little shopping. if anyone is still reading this and has destination suggestions i would love to hear them. especially things we won't find in tour guides.

and finally, last weekend we spent two gorgeous days in wine country and what a place it is! we stayed with two of the most generous people i've ever met. they took 15 20-somethings into their home, fed us, bedded us, drove us around and cleaned up after us. saturday was a full day with 12 wineries and countless tastings topped off with board games, a bonfire and some intense rounds of mafia. sunday started well with a poke around the town of jordon and an insiders tour of cave spring. we were slightly waylaid when tina (a blue parisienne land yacht) blew herself up on the qew but not to be kept down our hosts flew into action and managed to get us all to niagra-on-the-lake in time for the shaw festival show 'a month in the country'. a 3 hour russian translation, it was a lot to take in after a lot of wine and paucity of sleep. we returned home with trunk load of wine that we will hopefully have the opportunity to share with good friends and great food.

now that i've talked your ears off, i'm off to pack for thanksgiving in ottawa.

p.s. my summer was great.
