un-zen

my regular wed. night ashtanga class ends with meditation and reflection on my practice. usually this is when all the crap that yoga pushed out of my head comes rushing back in. the challenge being to keep it at bay for that little bit longer and just be. this takes place lying back on my mat, with my eyes closed and the lights turned down low. it is only 5 minutes but it is very useful. the following things disturbed me this week:

1. the dude two mats over snoring like a lumberjack (the idea is the release your mind WITHOUT falling asleep)
2. a person waiting for the next class yammering on her cell phone in the waiting area (separated from the studio by a sliding wood door)
3. the snotty sniffling and sneezing from the dude on the mat next to me
4. the honking and sirens of fire engines caught in traffic at the corner of danforth and broadview (two floors down)

all in all not a lot of reflection to be had. i endeavour to do better.
